Welcome to MobilizingYouth.org - the project that examines youth culture as it relates to Web and mobile technology and social change. This site also serves as the blog for
MobileVoter.org as well as the Web site that supports Mobile Voter’s book
entitled Mobilizing Generation 2.0: A Practical Guide to Using Web2.0 Technologies to Recruit, Organize and Engage Youth. The book was produced and edited by the experts in the field: Rock the Vote!
From the back cover: "This practical guidebook is a must-have for
every nonprofit and political organization interested in reaching
youth. The book clearly and concisely details the ways in which
new media has been used successfully –and unsuccessfully– to recruit, organize,
and engage young people. Importantly, it ties online efforts to offline action."
One of my favorite uses for blogs is as an aggregator of thoughts and references. So, in this blog, you'll find a lot of rough reading notes. Hopefully, you'll find some value in these unformed snippets - they're kind of like Cliff's notes to what the Mobile Voter team has been reading.
In addition, you'll find a few more developed essays that emerge when an idea crystallizes. There are also some specific pages that support various parts of the book.
Please participate! The powerful idea driving the Web 2.0 movement is that everyone brings their own experience and insight to the table. Savvy organizations enable their "audience" to become designers and doers. Please help us become one of these smart organizations by contributing your comments, critiques, and expertise. Submit comments and send me email. If you'd like to become a contributor to the blog, send me some writing samples.
Cheers,
Ben Rigby
