Not having a whole lot of luck digging up wikis in use for politics and civic life, I'm wondering what the most popular wikis are overall - Wikipedia being the elephant in the room, of course.
The Second Life wiki looks very well maintained and organized:
http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Main_Page. Looks like Linden gardens it.
Here's the most active list from Wikia:
http://www.wikia.com/wiki/Most_active_communities
* unclcylopedia: 697 users
* wookiepedia: 295 users
* halopedia: 148 users
* runescape wiki: 113 users
* eWrestling: 113 users
* star wars fanon: 113 users
* cybernations: 112 users
* memory alpha: startrek: 106 users
* wikifur: the "furry" community: 102 users
* transformers: 77 users
so we've got star wars, star trek, wrestling, and video games. i skimmed the furry wiki, but still not sure exactly what this is. this userbase looks like it trends old. cant find any demographics, but starwars + startrek + FPSes must be driven by 30+yr olds...
Hi there! If you want a good idea of what WikiFur is about, check out Wikipedia's articles on "furry fandom" and "furry convention".
Furry is really a whole subculture of its own, but you can think of it as an offshoot of the science fiction community relating to anthropomorphic (human-like) animals, with an emphasis on original personal characters. There's artists, writers, roleplayers, and just general fans involved. Ages range from below 18 to above 40, with an average around 25.
WikiFur contains information that we find useful, on topics like our conventions, social groups, comics, websites, and of course the various members of our community. See our featured articles and comics for a few examples.
The most popular wikis are centered around communities who have information to share among their members. We're often the same people who would contribute to Wikipedia articles, but we've got more space to expand on our own wikis. The wiki way works for us, because we have a lot of potential contributors who have information on a diverse but highly-related range of subjects. No one person could write the Compute Furry Reference - but together, we can.

Thanks for the info Green. Much appreciated. Think I'll write about the wiki in my upcoming book...
